He also has a star-studded roster of clients for his interior design services that includes Sir Anthony Hopkins, Jim Carrey, Jaclyn Smith, and Oscar award-winning musician Randy Newman, as well as financial and media magnates from both coasts.

From his atelier on Orlando next to Alexander McQueen, Philip designs an artistic line of hand-wrought iron pieces sold through select showrooms. Philip Nimmo Ironworks are sought after throughout the United States and all the way to Dubai and Australia.

Philip has been compared to Calder, Giacometti and Mondrian. Interior Design magazine called Philip a “Furniture Talent” and presented a full-page feature on him in 2008, noting, “While his work evokes a blend of Piet Mondrian and Alberto Giacometti with its chunky forms and regimented geometrics, it was vintage bangles and pendants that inspired the Ramona fire screen … and the Bauhaus-esque Quadro takes a different turn.” David Keeps of The Los Angeles Times called his Forma table “a sculptural piece that echoes Alexander Calder.”

Philip Nimmo is a tour de force in the world of iron, with highly sought after collections of fire screens, lighting, furniture, hardware and ornamental ironwork.

Ironworks was founded when a client asked Philip to custom-make a fire screen for his odd-sized fireplace, and Philip created an extraordinary piece. In its infancy Ironworks specialized in fireplace accessories, but when Philip realized that his designs could be translated into other forms, he expanded the line to include furniture, lighting and hardware. His travels, his endless browsing of books and publications, and his own collecting of paintings, sculpture and other works of art have served as an endless well of inspiration.

As an interior designer, Philip has orchestrated the interiors of numerous residences ranging from beachfront Malibu and Laguna Beach properties and Beverly Hills mansions to a penthouse condo in the historic Century Towers. With clients collecting blue chip contemporary artworks by Picasso, de Kooning, Kandinsky and many other painters of the 20th century, Philip has had the chance to work with prized canvases and create stunning interiors.

An art collector himself, Philip frequently acquires paintings and sculpture for his 1940s West Hollywood bungalow and his atelier. He continuously rotates his collection, which can include primitive pan-African art, pre-Columbian sculpture, huge contemporary color block canvases and even found objects that Philip has made into art. Visitors to the Loft, where Philip holds private gatherings, dinners and art shows, are enchanted by his eclectic collection, which is presented against a most entrancing charcoal brown backdrop.

With this in mind, Peter Grisdela and Gerry Bross established Hollywood Sierra Kitchens in the La Cienega Design Quarter in 2004. With more than 20 years of kitchen design experience, Grisdela believes that a kitchen communicates a great deal about the people who live and use it. He and Bross say it is essential in any design to get to know each client on a personal level and use that information accordingly.

Chameleon Fine Lighting, internationally known for its large selection of antique lighting and a wide stylistic array of high-end antique replicas, has opened a retail store in conjunction with Todd Hase at 729 North La Cienega Boulevard, in the heart of West Hollywood’s design district. Chameleon will celebrate the launch with a party at the store on Thursday, Oct. 7, from 5-8 pm.

“We are stocking the store with some of the best antique lighting in this country – Moderne, Gothic and Art Deco, as well as original fixtures from EF Caldwell, a pioneer in manufacturing electric light fixtures in the late 19th to early 20th centuries based on beautiful European models and decorative metalwork,” says Chameleon co-owner John Harvey. “Caldwell worked with the great American architect Sanford White on some of the most important and historic buildings in the country, including the Vanderbilt, Frick and Astor mansions, Rockefeller Center, and the Waldorf-Astoria.”

Chameleon Fine Lighting was established in New York in 1991 by Harvey and Robert Nesle Degiarde, grandson of the famed chandelier seller Albert R. Nesle. Initially noted for carrying antique lighting by EF Caldwell and The Sterling Bronze Company, Harvey and Degiarde built a solid reputation for offering a vast assortment of antique lighting as well as a beautifully crafted Signature line of reproductions that spans numerous periods and styles, from American Colonial to French Art Deco. In New York, their showroom is visited by the top designers in the country.

“Our new store showcases the full range of our capabilities, from the variety of styles and materials in our Signature Line, to the quality and breadth of our Antique Lighting. We’re bringing a high level of customization for high-end residential, commercial and hospitality,” says Harvey, noting that in recent years the company has worked on numerous custom residential and hospitality jobs, including the design and execution of chandeliers and other lighting for the famed Pierre Hotel in Manhattan.

Chameleon continues to be represented to the trade through showrooms across the nation including Thomas Lavin in Los Angeles, and welcomes trade and retail consumers to its new store at 729 North La Cienega Boulevard, Los Angeles 90069. For more information about Chameleon Fine Lighting, visit www.chameleon59.com.
